Danube

The Danube touches ten countries — more than any river on Earth — flowing east into the Black Sea. It has been Rome's frontier, the Habsburgs' spine, and is now the EU's water highway into the Balkans; whoever controls its mouth (Romania, within range of the Ukraine war) controls a continent's back door.
