The Baltic is Russia's other bottled sea: St. Petersburg's trade and Kaliningrad's fleet exit only through narrow Danish straits. With Finland and Sweden in NATO, every Baltic shore but Russia's own two slivers is now alliance coastline — 'NATO lake' is a geographic statement.
